As a cashier, your primary responsibility is to handle financial transactions with customers and provide excellent customer service. You will typically work in a retail or hospitality setting, where you will interact with customers, process payments, and ensure accuracy in monetary transactions.
Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, answer their questions, and provide assistance throughout their shopping or dining experience. Offer information about products, services, or promotions and address any concerns or issues.
Point of Sale Operations: Operate the cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system to process sales transactions accurately and efficiently. Scan or manually enter product or service prices, apply discounts or coupons, and calculate the final amount owed by the customer.
Payment Processing: Accept various forms of payment, such as cash, credit cards, debit cards, mobile payments, or gift cards. Handle transactions securely and in compliance with relevant procedures and policies.
Cash Management: Handle cash transactions, including providing change, counting cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts, and reconciling discrepancies. Ensure the proper security and confidentiality of cash and customer information.
Sales Reporting: Maintain records of daily transactions, including sales totals, payment types, and other relevant data. Prepare and submit daily sales reports or summaries to management.
Product Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the products or services offered by the establishment. Be able to provide basic information or recommendations to customers and identify upselling opportunities when appropriate.
